TRYMORE GUEST COTTAGE
The best time to arrive at Trymore is in the early afternoon. This provides you with time, once settled, to go up to the main house for tea and a tour of Wellwood’s unique fossil collection housed in a special little museum near the homestead.
An immaculately raked drive will be your first indication of the apple-pie order to come at Trymore. In winter, a wonderful time to visit the Karoo, malachite sunbirds will be flitting through the salvia bushes in bloom along the fence. You may be tempted to sink immediately into one of the morris chairs on the deep stoep and simply gaze across the pastures and into the vast space around you. Resist and follow Miemie into the utterly restful interior - the lounge with its comfy armchairs and fire ready laid; the fresh flowers from Marion’s garden; the homemade kumquat liqueur on the sideboard and four large airy double bedrooms. There is also a family-size dining room and a fully equipped country kitchen.
THE COTTAGE
Guests are accommodated in the private, charming cottage “Trymore” built in the 1950's by Grandfather Sidney Rubidge, a successful sheep farmer and renowned amateur palaeontologist, who's collection of fossils is reputed to be the largest in private hands. This self-contained 4 bedroom cottage, with 2.5 bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, dining room and comfortable lounge with open fireplace, is well suited for a couple, family or group.
Wellwood has a sense of tranquility, a sense of space as you sit on the stoep looking out across the pastures where sheep graze out towards the mountains restores you after a long journey.
