WELLWOOD MERINO STUD
At the foot of the Sneeuberg Mountains, just north of Graaff-Reinet in the Karoo, lies Wellwood Merino Stud. Established in 1838, Wellwood is among the oldest Merino studs in South Africa and continues to invest in steady, forward-focused breed improvement.
For over six generations, the Rubidge family has focused on breeding Merino sheep with balance, consistency, and dependable production traits. The direction remains clear: Merino sheep with quality wool, efficient growth, and strong fertility suited to Karoo conditions.
Today, Wellwood builds on its heritage with a modern approach to selection and flock management. Thoughtful sire choices, disciplined flock evaluation, and continuous refinement ensure progress that is practical, sustainable, and aligned with commercial needs.
